What I look for in an anime: First impressions are everything. Give me a reason to be interested early and keep me there until the end. If the characters are clichéd or the plot is unoriginal, then make up for it with a twist and do it early. It could also be with unique art or an above par soundtrack. You only get one first impression in the real world...the same applies for anime.
